James Joseph (Jim) Paxson (born July 9, 1957 in Kettering, Ohio) was a guard–forward with an 11-year career from 1979-1990 in the NBA. He played for the Portland Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics of the NBA and was subsequently inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Jim Jr., the son of Jim Sr., also a former Dayton star and NBA player, was a lanky 6'6 scoring threat and star for Portland, where he was a NBA All-Star. He then served as General manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 1999 until 2005. He is the older brother of retired Chicago Bulls guard and current Bulls general manager John Paxson. On July 5, 2006, Paxson was hired as a consultant for the Chicago Bulls. He was a two-time All-Star as member of the Trail Blazers.

He attended the University of Dayton.
